The
Leonard Residence
Dry Creek Road, Sedona
Completion 2003

Designed for fully enjoying the high desert outdoor
lifestyle, the Leonard residence is nestled into a
private, forested setting on 2.5 acres. Integrated
features of the home include a negative-edge pool
with spa and a rooftop deck over the guest casita.

Carefully
positioned among the trees and arroyos of the property,
the home is naturally screened from the main road.
A circular drive weaves through the native forest
landscape.
The
front gateway leads to the entry courtyard and frames
a stunning view of the red rocks. An entry court
divides the casita and the main house, leading to
the backyard pool area. Just inside the antique
gate, tiled stairs accent the approach to the roof
deck.

The
interior design reflects the Southwestern theme
of the home. The spaces are intimate yet free-flowing.
Features include log viga beams, latilla ceilings,
room-dividing exposed timber beams with carved corbels,
arch-top windows with divided lights, and waxed
concrete floors stained a deep red color.

The barrel vaulted hall leads to the private areas
of the home as well as the garage. The air-conditioned
garage contains a large workshop and a sewing center.

The negative-edge pool and spa with a spectacular
20-foot cascade defines the intimate rear yard. The
home's exterior plan flows to create courtyards, dining
nooks and sunny areas from which to enjoy the pool,
private forest and towering red rock views.
